Soft drinks, sports drinks and energy drinks

Make water your main everyday drink where possible, particularly between meals. After consuming something acidic, a few mouthfuls of water can help reduce the amount of acid left on your teeth.

2. Avoid sipping acidic drinks for hours

If you enjoy coffee, sparkling water, wine or another acidic beverage, try to consume it within a reasonable period rather than continually sipping it throughout the day.

Using a straw for some acidic drinks may also reduce direct contact with the front teeth. The straw should be positioned towards the back of the mouth, and the drink should be swallowed rather than held or swished around the mouth.

3. Wait before brushing

Brushing immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks may add mechanical wear to enamel that has temporarily softened.
