The Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) is a government dental health program which funds a benefit of up to $1,095 to cover basic dental services over a two-year period for around 3 million Australian children aged 2 to 17.
The two-year benefit period starts with your child’s first dental appointment covered by the CDBS benefit. If you don’t use the entire $1,095 benefit in the first year, you can still access the remaining balance in the second year, as long as your child is still eligible. Any unused benefit amount by the end of the second year is forfeited. However, you can simply begin a new two-year benefit period to continue receiving the benefit.Dental services covered by the CDBS:
- Check-ups and examinations
- Clean and scale
- Filling treatments
- Tooth extractions
- X-rays
- Fissure sealing
- Root canal therapy.
Are you eligibile? To be eligible for the CDBS, your child (or children) must be aged between 2 and 17. Your family must also have a Medicare card, and be receiving at least one of the following Government payments for at least one day of the calendar year in which your child receives treatment:
- Family Tax Benefit A
- Disability Support Pension
- ABSTUDY
- Parenting payment
- Double Orphan Pension
- Carer payment
- Special Benefit
- Youth Allowance
- Financial assistance via the Veteran’s Children Education Scheme (VCES)
- Financial assistance via the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (MRCAETS) – for children over 16.
