  • Inlays are designed to fit within the grooves between the cusps (the raised points) on the chewing surface of a tooth.
  • Onlays, on the other hand, cover one or more of the cusps and can restore a larger portion of the tooth’s surface. Because of this, onlays are sometimes referred to as “partial crowns.”
